Dolomiti senza confini

The via ferrata high route that unites across borders in the Dolomites.

Dolomiti Senza Confini is a high altitude via ferrata that crosses provincial, national and linguistic borders in nine daily stages and includes twelve via ferrata and 17 refuges.

In via ferratas we cross one of the most beautiful sections of the Dolomites and stay overnight in mountain huts. The route runs largely along the front of the First World War and has now, a hundred years after the end of the war, been opened with the help of an EU project as a via ferrata peace trail. Because the whole tour is rather demanding, you will also find a beginner’s alternative on our website.

Program

Day 1: Arrival, briefing and equipment check at our office in Sesto. Independent hike to the rifugio Comici.

Day 2: Ascent to the Zsigmondy hut, from where we take the via ferrata degli Alpini. From the Forcella Undici or Passo Sentinella we descend to the rifugio Prati di Croda Rossa hut.

Day 3: From the Croda Rossa meadows we climb over the Castelliere and then via the via ferrata Croda Rossa to the peak. From here we descend via the via ferrata Zandonella to the Rifugio Berti.

Day 4: From there we continue via the Malga Coltrondo and the Furgonisattel to the Obstanserseehütte hut and visit Europe’s largest ice cave.

Day 5: Via the Roßkopftörl we pass the Tscharrhütte (emergency accommodation) and start the difficult Kinigat via ferrata. (This is the most challenging climb of the week.) From the summit we simply pass the Filmoorhütte and continue via the Heretalm to the Porzehütte (all huts).

Day 6: From the Porzehütte we walk along the Sentiero dei Camosci to the top of the Porze. From there we climb over the Cresta della Pitturina (Ferrata Corrado d’Ambros) to the Fillmoor hut, where we spend the night.

Day 7: From here we climb the Kinigat again, but descend west along the easier via ferrata and follow the Alta via Carnica to the Col Quaterna. Afterwards via malga Nemes we reach the Passo Monte Croce. We take the Sala path and reach the rifugio Berti hut.

Day 8: Today we have to cope with the most demanding part of the Dolomiti senza confini itinerary. We go over the via ferratas Roghel and Cengia Gabriella to the Carducci hut.

Day 9: From the hut we go via the via ferrata Severino Casara to the Bivacco die Toni and via the Sandebühel climbing trail to the rifugio Pian di Cengia hut.

Day 10: On the last day of our tour we climb the Monte Paterno and then descend into the Val Fiscalina, where we finish our tour.
