Ski Crossing of Gruppo dell’Ortles
The Gruppo dell’Ortles is considered to be one of the greatest ski-touring regions in South Tyrol. Summits such as Cevedale and Zufallspitze are household names. Traversing the region for several days introduces you to the more remote summits and the quieter side of the region.
Day 1: Ascent via Rifugio Zufall (2,265m) to the comfortable Rifugio Marteller (2,580m)
Day 2: Climb Monte Cevedale (3,769m) and then descend via the Valle de Cedec to the “Valle dei Forni”. Then a short climb to Rifugio Branca (2,493m), renowned in the area for its excellent cuisine.
Day 3 and 4: Ski touring on the glacier-covered summits around Rifugio Branca. Some of the famous icons like Punta San Matteo (3,678m) and Pizzo Tresero (3,594m) await you.
Day 5: Climb from Rifugio Branca to Palon de la Mare (3,708 m) and then descend across the Vedretta glacier to the less well-known Rifugio Larcher (2,608 m).
Day 6: Climb from Rifugio Larcher al Cevedale to Forcola (3,032m), on to Vedretta del Cevedale and finally back down to the starting point.
