South Tyrol traverse
This impressive ski traverse along South Tyrol’s northern border with Austria takes us from the mountains of the Villgratental to the high alpine peaks and glaciers of the Ötztal Alps. Especially in the first part of the tour we follow a rarely used route, while in the second part some technically demanding, high alpine classics are on the program.
Depending on the route (mobile support), fitness and technical skills, the entire crossing takes at least 10 tour days.
The tour can be divided over several years, less rewarding sections can be skipped by public transport.
In the following programme suggestion we present the first stage from Villgraten to Pfitsch. The total duration of the crossing in this proposal is 6 days.
Day 1: Arrival at Innervillgraten – briefing and material inspection
Day 2: From Innervillgraten via the Kalksteiner Jöchl to St. Magdalena in the Val Casies
Day 3: Over the Hoher Mann and the Hexenscharte to Antholz Obertal
Day 4: Over the Passo Stalle – past the Almerhorn and the Barmerspitze to Riva d Tures
Day 5: By taxi to Lappach – over the Passenjoch to Pfunders
Day 6: Punders – Weitenbergalm – over the Pfundererjoch to Pfitsch – return to Innervillgraten by taxi and public transport
