Snowshoeing Lofoten / Norway – Discover a Winter Wonderland above the Arctic Circle

The spectacular Lofoten Islands lie above the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway. Thanks to the warm Gulf Stream, this region offers a unique winter climate: plenty of snow combined with surprisingly mild temperatures. The dramatic landscape of jagged peaks, deep-blue fjords and cliffs plunging into the sea also reveals a gentler side – and that’s exactly where our pleasure-focused snowshoe hikes begin.

Accommodation: We stay in Svolvær, on the island of Austvågøya, in a cosy rorbu – a traditional Norwegian fisherman’s cabin right by the water. From here, we start our daily excursions, all within short driving distances.

Our snowshoe hikes take us along scenic ridgelines, through quiet valleys, and up to snowy viewpoints overlooking the Norwegian Sea – perfect for nature lovers looking for peaceful, off-the-beaten-path experiences.

Location: Svolvaer
Transportation: airplane, rental car
Accommodation: Robeur (holiday apartment in a typical fishing hut) with 2 and 3 bed rooms.

Schedule:

Day 1: Flight to Evenes – Overnight stay in a hotel near the airport
Day 2: Drive to Svolvaer – frist snowshoe hike along the way
Day 3 to day 7: Breathtaking snowshoe hikes around Svolvær: e.g., to Mount Fløya, through the Tjelbergtind Valley, or across remote high plateaus with good chances to spot the northern lights
Day 8: Drive back to Evenes airport and flight home
